With having dedicated Aperture and Shutter Speed wheels, there is actually no need for any Exposure Mode wheel (P/Av/Tv/M):
- Press any [PIC] button to select Program Mode, with the appropriate program curve for your Photographic Intention and Auto-ISO.
- Turn the Aperture wheel to change the aperture, and automatically switch to Aperture Priority (Av) *.
- Turn the Shutter Speed wheel to change the shutter speed, and automatically switch to Shutter Priority (Tv).
- Turn the ISO wheel to set a fixed sensor sensitivity of your choice.
- With any press of a [PIC] button in Auto Exposure Mode, the camera returns to Program Mode, with the appropriate program curve for your Photographic Intention and Auto-ISO.
- An AE/Manual button allows to change to full Manual Mode, or back to Auto Exposure mode.
If you think the omission of an Exposure Mode wheel could be annoying for Enthusiasts and Professionals, have a look at Canon's and Nikon's flagship cameras, the 1Dx and the D3: Both miss an Exposure Mode wheel. Fact is that you need to take your eye off the viewfinder to well operate an Exposure Mode wheel, whilst with the 1Dx and D3 interfaces (button plus control wheel) one can do it whilst looking through the viewfinder. Our proposed approach is even faster than the current flagships' interfaces for exposure mode selection.
* This automatic exposure mode switching is not our idea: Several Pentax cameras feature it, named "Hyper-Program-Mode", and have received very positive appraisal for it. But the Pentax cameras still have an Exposure Mode wheel, which we propose to skip as unrequired.
